Description

Sword of Charlemagne whose hilt-guard, handle, and pommel are made of gold, as are the spurs. The top of ths sword's scabbard is of gold and decorated with precious stones.

• Taken to the Louvre on December 5, 1793.
• Currently in the Louvre, Paris, number MR 86.

Notes

• Made of gold, filigree, garnets. Straps of spangled purple fabric.
• Width, 17 cm., maximum length, 8.5 cm.
• Many restorations and additions.
• Used in the coronation of French monarchs
