Texts
Description
Brooch for a cope. It is made of gilded silver ornamented
with some precious stones. On it can be seen Saint Denis, with two other
figures, alos of gilded silver.
Félibien, pages 541. Translated by Jane Vadnal.
Notes
- In Le Trésor de Saint-Denis, Danielle Gaborit-Chopin
says that Félibien confused two brooches. She says that though he
described the brooch of Saint-Denis, in Plate III, he showed another brooch,
which showed Saint Louis.
- Both brooches were taken to the Louvre on December 5, 1793: The brooch
which pictured Saint Louis was stolen in 1830, the one showing Saint Denis
was sold in 1798.
Félibien, page 541.
Louvre, nos. 52-3, pages 255-6.
