Description
Chalice and Paten of Abbot Suger. .... The paten is made
of a precious stone called serpentine, covered with gold dolphins, with
a border of gold covered with different kinds of precious stones.

History
- In most sources, this paten is associated with the Cup of the Ptolmeys.
Only Félibien groups it with the Chalice of Suger.
- Acccording to the Louvre, the serpentine bowl dates from the first century before or after the birth of Christ.
- Mounting probably 9th century; the Louvre dates it to the second half of the nineth century and assocites it withe the court of Charles the Bald.
- Sent to the Louvre Museum, December 5, 1793.
- Currently at the Louvre, MR 415.
