There are also some very ancient manuscripts whose covers
are for the most part extremely rich. There is ...a New Testament from around
900 AD written on purple-colored vellum.

The Manuscript
- Parchment, 250 folios.
- Pages dyed purple-letters written is silver or gold.
- Height 28 cm, Width 19.5 cm..
- Contains the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as translated by
Saint Jerome.
- Probably dates from the early 9th century.
- Probably made by the "School of the Palace of Charlemagne."

- Central plaque made of elephant ivory, border of gilded silver, gems,
champleve enamel on gold.
- Height 29.6. Width 20.8 cm.
- Subject: Christ, holding a book and making a gesture of blessing,
- Plaque probably made in the Court of Charlemagne around 800, border
from the 14th century.

- Carved gold and silver.
- Subject\: Saint Luke (left) and Saint John (right) identified
by their symbols.
- Probably Paris, third quarter of the 13th century.
