Crowns

Several crowns were used during the coronation ceremony. The Archbishop put the "Official Crown" on the head of the King or Queen. Later on in the ceremony, it was replaced with another crown, which by the 13th century had come to be the personal crown of that particular monarch. In the 16th century, another crown was added to the ceremony, after the official crown but before the personal crown. (See Gabriot-Chopin (1987), p.85.)
