In collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh's Digital Research Library, we have developed searchable image databases for Chartres Cathedral and the Benedictine Abbey Church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine at Vézelay. The Chartres database, which contains over 3,000 images, is coordinated with web pages to allow for a more structured approach to these images.

The purpose of this site is to promote education and research in Medieval art and architecture. It was developed over the period c. 1995-2012 and is now in a state of 'gentle degredation' in which aspects of it are expanded sporadically and there is some effort to repair broken links, but currently no major additions are envisaged. It continues to be housed at the University of Pittsburgh and has recently been the subject of an NEH-funded inquiry as to its continued viability. The report on that inquiry can be consulted at https://sites.haa.pitt.edu/sustainabilityroadmap/about/ (scroll down to the link before “STSR Project Team.”
